Questions and Answers with Malik Shaheed by Moburnmusic.com

Questions and Answers with Malik ShaheedMalik Shaheed

Founder of Versatilite Communications, he organized and hosted parties for the likes of Denzel Washington, Wyclef, and Prince. Morburn Music got a chance to chat with the Hype creator himself.

Q. How did you get your nickname “The Hype Creator”?

A. It was given to me because everything I do; there is an element of hype, excitement and curiosity. I’m all about marketing, that’s what I do.

Q. You’ve done interviews with some of the biggest and brightest stars of hip hop and rnb. Does any interview stand out, who impressed you the most?

A. My interviews with 50 cent, Eminem, Ghost Face, Bobby Digital (a.k.a. RZA) Destiny’s Child, Dr Dre, Lil Kim, Jaheim, and Jon B. These were my favorite interviews because I was able to connect with the artists on another level which other reporters were unable to do.

Q. You were one of the best VJ’s Canada has ever seen! What really happened with you and MusiquePlus?

A. I could no longer grow as a show producer VJ or reporter at MusiquePlus anymore. I was no longer flying out to L.A, New York or Toronto doing interviews with big name artists because of budget cuts. Instead I was interviewing local artist and I was a bigger star than them, so I had to move on and take what I learnt to build my own production house called Versatilite.

Q. Are you still in touch with the urban scene in Quebec? In terms of artist does anyone stand out right now?

A. I lost touch with the urban scene because they were only focusing on the music, and I was about the music, the show and the business.

Q. What are your feelings on the state of hip hop in Canada and here in Montreal?

A. The scene is stagnate, the artist are not consistent and there is a lack of branding, and marketing when it comes to Canadian artist and Montreal artist, so nobody cares.

Q. What in your opinion needs to be done to improve the scene?

A. They need to learn, how to brand, market themselves and learn the realities of the music business not what their friends tell them.

Q. What was the motivation behind your solo album “Franglais”?

A. Originally Franglais was supposed to be a compilation featuring artist from Quebec but I was not satisfied with the vibe of music I received so I decided to do it on my own. It gave me an opportunity to improve my French, learn more about the Quebecois culture, brand my name, tour Quebec to meet my fans and get more caked up $$$$. People have to remember I am not a rapper; I am a business man and entertainer.

Q. What keeps Malik Shaheed busy these days?

A. My dance company, my Youth Stars Foundation, my TV projects and the launching of DJ Malik Shaheed.

Q. Morburn would like to thank Malik Shaheed for talking with us. We wish him continued success and we are looking forward to hearing about his future endeavors. Do you have any final words for the massive?

A. Nothing is free in life, Nobody Cares, Entertainment is an illusion and if you want something done right do it yourself, check me out on WWW.MALIKSHAHEED.COM
